An illustrious daughter of Shri. Amar Varma, the famous Hindi / Urdu writer / poet and Padmashree Smt. Manik Varma, the doyen of Indian classical of Kirana Gharana, who also excelled in semi classical and light music like Thumri, Natyasangeet, Bhavgeet and Bhaktigeet. As years passed by, along with the music inherited from her mother, she started taking Indian classical music lessons from Pandit Vasantrao Kulkarni from the childhood on her mother's insistence to have a base and depth in music. Looking to her talent and potential, the famous music director of Indian Motion Pictures, Shri. C. Ramchandra gave her the first break in his musical concert "Geet Gopal" as a solo singer at the age of nine. At 12, her first playback songs, "Hey Rashtra Devantanche" and "Pappa Saanga Kunache", for a Marathi film, Gharkul, became super hits, where she captured the hearts of millions with her sweet melodious voice and confidence and became popularly known as "Rani Varma", the wonder child singer.

Specializing in light music under the guidance of ghazal king, Shri. Jagjit Singh, famous composers, Shri. Raghunath Seth and Shri. K. Mahvir, she excelled in versatile singing that varies from popular music of films, bhajans, and ghazals to disco. She always topped all inter school and college music competitions and grabbed many prestigious awards as the best young artiste. She was crowned with " S.D. Burman Award " as the " Best Female Singer - 1976 " by well known music organization, ' Sur Singar '.

Ambitious Rani progressed steadily keeping her pace with time and started climbing the ladder of success by her solo performances in India and abroad. She captivated and thrilled the audience with her great beauty, her excellent use of stage and the command over her voice. Looking to her talent and melodious voice, she was invited by renowned singers of Indian film industry like, Manhar, Mahendra Kapoor, Nitin Mukesh, Shailendra Singh, to perform in their live concerts. With her divine music, she was highly appreciated by all music lovers. At a very young age, she traveled almost all over the world for live concerts.

She sang for quite a few regional films under many music directors, All India Radio and in fact she was the first face to appear on Indian Television in 1972, mesmerizing the viewers by her beautiful looks and presentati on to match with her sweet voice. She also cut many albums for all music companies. Her Marathi album, "Adam Tadam", is a super hit amongst children even today.

Being a self believer, Rani formed her own musical group called, "Saptak". It was very well appreciated because of her rich and unique selection of songs with an excellent quality presentation and Rani became a 'Star Singer'. She performed more than 700 shows of Saptak all over the country and performed with her own group in USA for 3 successive years in 1993, 1994, & 1996. She charmed the audience with her magical singing and gracious presence by singing in more than 9 different languages. Looking at her vast experience and knowledge in the field of music, now she is being invited by all TV channels to be the judge of music talent shows. She does a lot of social work being an active member of the 'Giants International'. She also plans to enter into production of TV serials, Advertising and small budget films etc. Rani also grabs the honor of being the first recognized female recordist of India after graduating from the Audio Engeering school from USA and owned her own recording studio.

Rani and Vinay Mandke performed the most innovative musical show, "Heart To Heart", all over USA in 2006-07, where they received an overwhelming response from all music lovers, who also participated in the show by dancing to their mesmerizing music. Both of them now plan to perform this show all over the world.
